Preparing for the Do-It-Yourself Divorce tool
Contents
Information You Will Need
The Do-It-Yourself Divorce tool will ask you for information you might not have with you now. You can save time by printing the Divorce with Minor Children Worksheet or Divorce without Minor Children Worksheet before you start. Use the worksheet to gather the information you need. The more information you have when you begin, the less you will have to gather later.
How the Tool Works
You will be asked a series of questions, and your answers will be used to create your divorce forms. If you don't know the answer to a question, you can leave it blank, but you may need to fill that information in by hand before you file your court forms. Once you finish, you can choose to print your documents or save them.
Create an Account on Law Help Interactive
You will be redirected from this website to the LawHelp Interactive (LHI) website to prepare your forms. Depending on your situation, you may spend 30-90 minutes answering questions. If you can’t finish in one session, you should create a LHI account and save your answers before you exit. We strongly recommend that you log in before you start. If you create an account, make sure to write your username and password somewhere safe. You need them to log back in and get your saved answers.
You can exit at any time by clicking on “Finish” at the bottom right of the screen. If you're logged in, you can save your answers for later use.
Sample Parenting Time Schedules
If you and your spouse have minor children together, you will be asked about custody and parenting time arrangements. The Parenting Time Guideline created by the Friend of the Court Bureau is a helpful resource for parents who need to put together a parenting time schedule. The Guideline includes sample schedules you can use as a starting place to create your family's schedule. It also has information about the developmental needs of children at different ages in connection to parenting time. The Guideline addresses specific topics such as long distance parenting time, parenting time with a parent who is in prison, and how to address domestic violence situations.
You can also review one or more of our sample parenting time schedules. The following sample parenting time schedules are available to review and print:
